$200 Sponsors a child of Reneetswe this holiday season

$200 a year. That is the cost to fund the yearly care of one child from Reneetswe Orphan Centre. This holiday season we ask you to consider  sponsoring a child for a year – either as a gift or a donation.

I am Tebogo Motau. I am thirteen years of old. I am doing standard seven at Mmonye Primary School. I have one sister who is doing standard five. My parents died when I was five years. I am an orphan with my sister. We stay with our guardian (my mother’s brother).  When I grow up I want to be a teacher. I am writing my standard seven exam this year. If I pass well I will continue and do form 1. I am living a difficult life with my sister. Our guardian is not working. We go to Reneetswe Happy Home Orphanage Care Centre. We depend on handouts from the centre. We eat, study and play games at the centre. We meet other children from other homes. We are a family. Now I know, someone cares. History of Reneetswe Orphan Centre
In response to the increasing number of orphans in Botswana due to the AIDS pandemic, the Holy Spirit Catholic Church founded Reneetswe Orphan Centre in 2003 as a drop in centre for orphans and their caregivers in the small village of Mmankgodi.

Botswana Orphan Program began in 2004 when Debra and Bob Hicks began working with Reneetswe as Peace Corps volunteers. Botswana Orphan Program works cooperatively with Reneetswe to fund and expand the centre’s services.

With our help Reneetswe has provided meals, counseling, tutoring, love and support to over 400 village orphans 5 days a week during the past 5 years.

Reneetswe is funded purely from donations and relies upon the hard work of village volunteers.

Orphan children in Botswana often live with relatives. Due to stigma and the extra burden on caregivers, orphans do not always receive the care and protection they deserve. Orphans are at high risk for abuse and exploitation. Centre volunteers provide love, support and a safe haven. Through their relationships at the centre, the children can begin the process of healing from their traumatic losses.
